Yesterday was International Day for Monuments and Sites or World Heritage Day. The purpose behind commemorating this day is to promote awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage of humanity, their vulnerability and the efforts required for their protection and conservation.
UNESCO, a cultural wing of UN, declares certain sites as World Heritage Sites according to some set of criteria. Italy has the highest number (53) of World Heritage Site, followed by China at 52. Till now we, in India, have 36 World Heritage Sites.
I like travelling, especially those places which have some natural, historical and cultural significance. I have visited some of the World Heritage Sites of India at different point of time in past. I am also looking forward to visit all those sites which I haven’t visited yet.
To commemorate this day, I am sharing some of the pictures Indian World Heritage Sites, which I have taken during my visit to these places. Hope you would like it.
